Who Are We?
A Change of Attitude
A biblical defense for "Vacation"
Book of 1 Corinthians
"Growing Up. Building Up."
. We begin with the legacy, the location and the letter itself. Acts 18:1-18 tells us the story of how this new church came to be!
"One Thing Makes all the Difference."
. All of Paul's letters begin with a customary introduction. But this one is packed full of meaning and theology. What is the ONE things that makes all the difference? Audio not available this week.
Division Part I
"Stay on Message"
. The Corinthians were really struggling with division and jealousy. Why? This is the first installment to explore the reasons for their strife. And guess what? Those reasons continue to hold true today!
Division Part II
"Wise Guy (or Gals)"
Another reason for the Corinthian's strife and division was a misunderstanding of wisdom. What it is and where is comes from?
Division Part III
"You have a Job to do (And so do I)."
. Misunderstanding our role in the actual ministry of the local church is critical for unity and oneness. The Corinthians, though, had everything backwards which led to more strife in the church. Sorry - audio not available!
Division Part IV
"Feasting on Humble Pie"
. Paul concludes his discussion on the reasons for the Corinthians disunity with this scathing rebuke on pride. At the end of the day, the Corinthians operated out of arrogance and not love. How about you?
Immorality and the Body of Christ
" 1 Cor 5:1-3, 6:12-20. Paul can't believe the report he has heard about the immorality tolerated in the Corinthian church! "Flee immorality!" Paul cries. But he also provides the theological reason for staying pure. Message by Jin Hyo Lee
"What's Wrong About Rights?
1 Cor 6:1-11
. The church's conflict was so out of control that fellow church members were taking each other to court. "How dare you!" Paul rebuked. But why? What is the problem? Shouldn't we defend our rights?
"Advice to Married Couples."
1 Cor 7:1-24
. Paul begins a new section of the letter by address questions raised by the church. The first has to do with two key issues surround marriage - intimacy and divorce.
"Advice to Single People."
1 Cor 7:25-40. Paul is the celebrity spokesman for the single life. With great passion he argues for its legitimacy and high calling. Want to get married? Fine. But even better...stay single!
"Is Eating Out?"
1 Cor 8:1-13. The question was, "Is it OK to eat meat, even if it might have been sacrificed to an idol?" Though the issue is not all that applicable to us here in America, Paul's answer delivers a profound warning that applies in so many ways to you and me.
"A True Winner
" 1 Cor 9:1-27. Paul runs the race to win it. Why? What does a true winner look like?
1 Cor 10:1-13. What are your temptations? Do you have good strategies to resist? Paul gives two KEY ways we can say "no" to temptation in this very practical passage.
Walking the Line
" 1 Cor 10: 14-33. It is a temptation as Christians to either fall into the extremes of legalism or using our freedom to justify sin. Paul calls us to watch the line and use wisdom in living out our faith.
Introduction to 1 Cor 11:1-16. Paul begins a new section where he speaks to problems in the Corinthians worship services. But the issues are strange to most of us, such as headcoverings and length of hair. How are we to approach such a passage? This message lays some theological groundwork before we draw any conclusions.
"Headcoverings and Haircuts"
1 Cor 11:1-16. Often referred to as one of the more difficult texts in the New Testament (in terms of interpretation) Paul's commands for women to wear headcoverings leaves many of us confused. What is cultural? What is timeless? Those are the questions explored in this message.
"Hey, Wait Up!"
1 Cor 11:17-34. The Corinthian's worship problems continue at the Lord's Table. Paul exhorts them to "wait for one another" - which is what they were NOT doing (and what we struggle with as well!)
"A More Excellent Way!"
1 Cor 12:12 - 13:13. They had tried everything! They tried running the church according to knowledge. They tried organizing around gifted people. "No!" Paul says, the more excellent way is to establish the local church according to love!
"Building Up the Church!
1 Cor 14. Paul bring full focus now on a major theme of the book - building up the local church. How? Paul finishes his teaching on spiritual gifts!
"What It's All About!"
1 Cor 15:1-34. Paul has addressed many and varied topics. Now he returns to the core essence of Christianity. This is Paul's "Magnum Opus" on the Resurrection!
1 Cor 15:35-58. Paul continues his teaching on the resurrection, now moving his focus to what happens to the body.
"Paul's Final Plea for Church Unity"
1 Cor 16. Paul comes to the end of his letter with one final call for unity in the Corinthian church.
