Dear Parent,
I wanted to let you know that we’ve started Vivid, the 6-lesson study from the Book of James on the importance of a Christ-follower’s beliefs matching his or her actions. The first lesson was a very exciting lesson. It laid the foundation for the conflict that every Christ-follower faces when trying to have a vivid faith.
The first lesson was entitled “The Fight Within” and focused on James 1:12-17. The point of the lesson was that students would identify the internal struggle with sin and commit to keep fighting against it.
Next Steps . . .
As you go through your week with your student, look for instances to create some dialogue based on the theme of this lesson. Consider discussing the following questions or concepts:
• Ask: Is the struggle with sin something you feel in your life on a daily basis?
• Share with your child how you also deal with the internal struggle with sin and how you deal with the tension between wanting to follow Christ while still fighting against your sin nature.
• Pray with your child that the Holy Spirit would give him or her strength to fight with sin in his or her life.
Pray that God would move your child and our student ministry to realize that the life of a Christ-follower is a struggle. Pray that God would begin to unite students together in our student ministry to pray for and encourage each other as they seek to win “The Fight Within.”
