Our Logo - The Anchor Cross    Anchor Cross

Why a logo? A logo is a visual picture that reflects a group's values and purposes. Throughout church history, symbols and images have been used to teach and explain truths about God.

“We rely on the language of metaphors and symbols because they help us to comprehend the truths of our faith…Christ himself taught spiritual truths through symbols, most notably using the bread and wine of the Last Supper…" Alva William Steffler, Symbols of the Christian Faith, p.ix (Steffler is Professor of Art at Wheaton College).

The anchor-cross is one of the most ancient symbols of the Christian faith. It was found on the walls of the catacombs where early Christians fled from Roman persecution. It symbolizes the stability and hope of our faith, especially in turbulent times. This hope is placed in our good, trustworthy, and unchanging God. The symbol was probably based on Hebrews 6:19.

This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast. Hebrews 6:19a
