Our Mission
|
Our mission is to glorify the Triune God through the richness of historic Christian worship as we grow together in faith and share God’s grace with others; anchoring all things in the truth of God’s Word.
A mission statement provides a short, compelling statement of a church's assignment or mission that it hopes to accomplish. The above statement was constructed through prayer, the thoughtful input of core-group families, Trinity Fellowship staff and others. It is a God-centered and God-sized mission statement that I pray will guide us for years to come.
While it is true that all churches have similar biblical purposes (for example to worship God, disciple believers, evangelize, etc.) not all churches carry out their purposes in the same way. God uses all types of churches to reach all types of people.
Our mission statement complements our purpose statements by giving expression to how we feel God is leading us to live out those purposes. It is a local church perspective.
A close look at our new mission statement provides a good picture of what our church values and strives to become.
Consider each of the five parts:
| First... |
The highest calling we have individually and corporately is to glorify the Triune God. This is intentionally given “first place” in our statement. We recognize that there is great pressure to be human-centered, and we must be continually reminded of God's role and pace in our church.
|
| Second... |
One way we seek to glorify God is through historic Christian worship. This reflects our commitment to worship in a way that is connected to the historic church. In corporate worship this is seen through the use of creeds, weekly communion, the Church Calendar and a blended music style. Within the evangelical church we believe much historical grounding and appreciation has been lost over the past 100 years and we seek to be enriched by some of what God has been doing over the course of history.
|
| Third... |
We are also called to grow together in faith, not alone, but together in community. There is a strong value of individuality in our culture, and the church stands out as a place of community. We are on a journey of faith together with others as we seek to know Christ better.
|
| Fourth... |
We also seek to joyfully share God’s grace with others. This is both an evangelistic statement of sharing the gospel, and a commitment to be share grace with one another and the world. We agree with C.S. Lewis who said the the one thing that sets Christianity apart from other world religions is grace.
|
| Fifth... |
Finally, everything we do is anchored in the truth of God's Word, so that we do not drift away into human-centered ministry. The Bible is our standard and it is a priority to preach and teach from God’s word.
